Australia trip

Richmond - Julia creek

Flat country with excellent road, railway line still adjacent. Good passing width.

Julia Creek - Cloncurry
driving road

Road continues very good. Country flat with occasional trees and bushes. Plenty of dead kangaroos since C.T. Last 20km into Cloncurry through undulating country with steep rocky hills.

Cloncurry - Mt. Isa
driving road

Good road with changing terrain from hills to flats, then abruptly back to hills near Mt Isa.

Mt. Isa - Northern Territory border
driving road

The road is fair - a narrow strip of bitumen with gravel edges.

Border - Stuart Highway
driving road

At the border the road becomes highway standard for about 30km then about 35km of old, narrow road, then again becomes highway standard through to the Barkly Roadhouse at junction with Tablelands Highway.

From Barkly Roadhouse to Stuart Highway the old road prevails with good gravel edges and occasional 2-3km stretches of new surface, plus a 30km stretch of the new surface approaching Three Ways. However the last 20km is  the narrow, original surface.

Threeways - Darwin

This road (Stuart Highway) is now highway standard. Plenty of roadside stops with room for 10 or so vehicles, some with shade and others with water and tables.

 Arnhem Highway to Jabiru
